2005 Napa valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Reviews

Restaurant Wine- "Full bodied and medium rich, this is a supple, intensely flavored wine,
with blackberry, cedar, cocoa, tobacco, and new oak aromas/flavors. Long finish."

EXCELLENT quality for its type, style, and price. Among (4 stars) the very best of its type for its price. Highly recommended

The Wine Advocate/December 2007 - Robert Parker - 91 Points - This deep ruby/purple-colored wine, made at the Judd’s Hill Winery and bottled by Robert Pecota winery, is outstanding. A beautiful, rich wine, it exhibits notes of black currant, licorice, underbrush, and subtle background oak. Medium to full-bodied, still very young and primary but very promising as well, this wine should age nicely for 12-15 years.

Colorado Wine News, October-December 2007 - "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bates Creek Vineyard, Stags Leap District, $40, 500 cases, contains 14% merlot and spent 19 months in new and used French oak barrels. It opens up very ripe with black raspberry, black cherry, leather, smoke, and chocolate pudding. All repeat as flavors with the additions of black plum, spice, and light, dry tanning and continue through the medium broad, medium-long finish. Well balanced, structured, and integrated. Tasty"

Wine Review Online, July 31, 2007 - "...aromas of pine fronds and cassis. On the palate the wine is generous and sweet, with a moment of ripe black currant fruit..."

NYCwinereport.com, July 31, 2007 - "This deep, rich California beauty from the hills of Napa’s Stags Leap District delivers a core of ripe cherry, raisin and smooth cocoa flavors.

The expressive medium-bodied palate is marked by soft tannins as well as density and a sensuous texture. Big but elegant, it finishes with a long, concentrated aftertaste. Pity there isn’t more of this to go around. "

Wine Spectator, October 31, 2006 - "Ripe raspberry and cherry flavors are juicy, supple and generous, with lively acidity and classy shadings of oak, cedar, vanilla and dark chocolate on a medium frame. Drink now through 2011."

Koeppel On Wine, September 4, 2006 - "Excellent. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, and so is this cabernet sauvignon-based wine from Black Coyote. Vivid black currant and black cherry flavors seethe with licorice and lavender, tar and cedar, lead pencil and minerals. The wine is incredibly smoky, like pots filled with smoldering potpourri, there’s sandalwood and exotic spice, briars and brambles and garrigue, the wild dusty weedy scrub-brush of the South of France. The wine exhibits awe-inspiring substance and gravity, but without feeling heavy or ponderous; the texture, buttressed by velvety tannins and 19 months in new and used French oak, is plush and seductive. A distinctly Californian-style cabernet that’s Worth a Search...300 cases. Now through 2010 to 2012."

Colorado Wine News, July-September 2006 - "...Contains 14% merlot, was barrel aged for 19 months in new and older French Oak, and opens with mint, raspberry, and cherry aromas before sweet edged flavors of raspberry and cherry plus light, gripy tannin. The long, somewhat narrow finish shows some alcohol at the end. It is heavier in the mid-palate than at the front or back, is straight forward, well balanced, structured, and integrated. Tasty."

Orange County Register, April 20, 2006 - "Lively aromas of boysenberry, chocolate, cedar and mint lead to a palate of juicy boysenberry fruit, spice and a hint of menthol. The texture is plush yet clean, and the wine fi nishes with lively acidity."

San Francisco Chronicle, March 23, 2006 - "Lively aromas of boysenberry, chocolate, cedar and mint lead to a palate of juicy boysenberry fruit, spice and a hint of menthol. The texture is plush yet clean, and the wine finishes with lively acidity."

Dan Berger Vintage Experiences, February 19, 2004 "Herbs and a trace of hay interplay with black cherry/cassis. . .it opened with air to show nice nuances of fruit."

Harold Baer, Colorado Wine News, January-March 2004 ". . .aged for 19 months in new and used French oak. It shows earth, mushrooms, smoke, charred oak, vanilla, black cherry, blueberry, and currant on the nose. Medium-bodied and with nice acidity and flavors of cherry, cranberry, rhubarb and smoke, it finishes medium-broad and medium-long. . . it is well balanced, integrated, and structured . . ."

Wine Enthusiast November 12, 2002 "This isn't one of your over-the-top Napa Cabs. It's balanced and harmonious and doesn't let the fruit push it around. Has proper notes of black currants olives and herbs, a deft dose of oak and lovely tannins."
